From Social Sphere to Intermediary Association: A Critical Analysis of Civil Society’s Neoliberal Transformation

In this paper, I examine the neoliberal transformation of civil society through Mitchel Foucault’s insights concerning knowledge, power, and governmentality. The objective paper is to trace evolving understandings how they relate governmental rationalities technologies power. traditional notion as a distinct autonomous sphere has shifted toward an intermediary associations approach under neoliberalism. posit that mobilization non-governmental organizations by states, international organizations, donor agencies since 1990s constitutes form technology, influenced rationalities. This technology serves agenda undermining social state, promoting market creation, encouraging non-partisanship. argument suggests rise coincides with decline society.
